I feel silly blogging about 6 pieces of junk mail. But the dramatic tension is growing. Can I make the junk mail stop for a month? I am on the edge of my mailbox with anticipation.

The good thing about only 6 pieces, is that I have more time to really talk about these last few junk mailers. This week doesn’t disappoint.

All of these groups are controled by one family: the Sheldons. The dad Rev. Louis P. Sheldon  and the daughter Andrea Lafferty run Traditional Values Coalition, Wiki page, Washington State page  Open Secrets page, Charity Navigator page (no rating) opt-out here (714)520-0300 (no pick up) tvcca@traditionalvalues.org. They want to be “the religious conservative alternative to the ultraliberal AARP.”

They also have the Christian Seniors Association  it is the lobbying arm of TVC. It is run by Andrea Lafferty and her husband Jim Lafferty (202)547-4400 (no pick up) Memberservices@christianseniorsassociation.org.

Citizens to Protect Senior’s Security is a division of Christian Seniors Association that focuses on Obama care, and anything else that scares seniors into giving money.

TVC is listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for it’s anti-gay views. Andrea Lafferty is proud of this and wears it like a badge of honor.

American Target Advertising is their fundraiser.

This one is her membership dues renewal notice for 2015. They are very proud of the different ways they harassed people last year:

  • 17.5 million voter education letters. That were tossed in the trash.
  • Made 10 million get-out-the-vote, harassing phone calls.
  • Distributed 20 million voter guides to 117,000 churches. That were put in that free flyers spot that every church has, then tossed out after the election.
  • Emailed and texted 4.6 voters. That went strait to their junk mail boxes.
  • Ran 16 million online video ads. That were blocked by Ad Blocker.
  • Deployed hundreds of volunteers who visited 500,00 homes, and had the door slammed in their faces.

American Target Advertising is their fundraiser.

Mysterious “Backwoods Millionaire” Finally reveals his $5,000,000,00 Secret go to this website: Something4Nothing.com  Massive Profits in Sports and Concerts they want $59 a month. This is a scam run by Jim “Jimbo” Walters of Platinum Acquisitions INC. 228 W US HWY 30 #133, Schererville, IN 46375. Opt-out here He must be the king of the “Get rick quick” scam these are other scams he runs:

Did Jim “Jimbo” Walters change his name to Rob Leonard? Inquiring minds want to know.

I found no other mention of Rob Leonard or The Green Sheet on the internet. I feel kinda special. I am the fist one to talk about this scam. If you get this scam in the mail, fill out a form 1500 and send it to New York. That is the only way to stop junk mail like this. It is a scam you will not make any money.

Yes, I got more mail this week than last week, but only one mailpiece from St. Joseph’s. They have dropped the crazy misspelling of her name from their mailing list.

I hope your Thanksgiving was good and that your parents and grandparents junk mail woes are under control. My plans fell through. I made the best of it by emailing a bunch of junk mailers and their direct mail fundraising companies. So when they rolled into work on Monday they found my “Remove from mailing list” email.

Since I am down to a reasonable amount of junk mail here is how the month of December is going to go:

  1. Scan into PaperKarma
  2. Email, and if it is email number 2: a phone call.
  3. Email to direct marketing firm, if I can find it
  4. If no response by the end of the week, fill out a complaint to the DMA
  5. If scam send in a form 1500

My experiment with PaperKarma is over. It was able to stop about half of the mail I scanned in. I will be doing a review of Catalog Choice vs. PaperKarma soon.

Next week I should be dropped from InfoCision, and American Target Advertising.

Drowning in Junk Mail – How to Opt-out of Junk Mail from American Target Advertising

Today’s direct marketing firm is American Target Advertising, they also have the website Non-Profit Prosperity.com.

The company was founded in 1965 by Richard Viguerie using a mailing list made up of 12,500 of Barry Goldwater`s $50-plus donors. He went down to the clerk of the House of Representatives with a gaggle of secretaries to write down Barry Goldwater’s donors who gave $50 or more. Out of 15,000 names they only got 12,500, before someone kicked them out. That list of names became the backbone of his direct mail firm, The Viguerie Company that became American Target Advertising. Mr. Viguerie has spun off his marketing techniques in to a class, so you can do them yourself Viguerie Marketing Institute. He has also written a book about direct mail marketing America’s Right Turn.

Direct marketing firms all share/sell their mailing lists with each other. Groups who I opted-out of months ago started popping up again. That tells me she was being sold back on to the list. Or I was getting 2 of the same mailpiece in the same week and got it down to one. There was a list above what I had gotten her off of. That lead me to the history of direct mail and Mr. Viguerie. I am sure my gal has been on this guy’s list since the 1970’s.

Like Mr. Viguerie I am using the Federal Election Commission  and the IRS as a tool. Only this time it is to find out who his clients are so I can make mail from American Target Advertising stop. Between Charity Navigator and Open Secrets I have taught myself how to dig into the boat loads of paper that charities and PACs have to file. American Target Advertising is a classy firm that doesn’t blab about their clients on their website. I had to dive into documents that can be hundreds of pages long, to pull out who does the fundraising for each one.

I hate slipping back like this, but the amount of mail that rolls in can have wild fluctuations in either direction week to week. PaperKarma has been having problems ever since the update to iOS8. I hope that they work everything out soon. I have a huge backlog of requests right now. And I have ratcheted up the revenge meter. I have sent out my first DMA Ethics Case Complaint form. It is for State Department Watch. I have emailed State Department Watch, I got no response. When I called them no one picked up the phone. Oh, now it is on State Department Watch. Look for that at the bottom with the pre-paid envelopes and the form 1500’s.

I have stalled. I am stuck at 40-50 pieces a week. I don’t expect to drop again until the end of the month when the junk mail from Base Connect stops. I am taking a photo of every mailpiece in PaperKarma. I have entered over 140 different companies since I stated using PaperKarma in late July. A human from the DMA got back to me. They want people to mail in a formal complaint. I am going to try and get an e-mail address out of them.

  • The Arthritis Trust of America PO Box 7003 Merrifield VA 22116-7003. This is a scam charity that has a scam sweepstakes attached to it. #48 Worst Charities in America
  • Liberty Document Reporting LDR PO Box 190 Old Westbury, NY 11568, PO Box 422 Old Bethpage, NY 11804. This is an advanced fee fraud scam. They want you to send in $21 and they will send you $3,639,921.00
  • National Magazine Exchange Strike it Rich IX Sweepstakes 800-975-8526, 8285 Bryan Dairy Rd Ste 150, Seminole, FL 33777-1306. Tampa Bay Times article about NME
  • C Logistic Processing PB20 4850 AA Ulvenhout Netherlands it is signed by Pippo. This is an advanced fee fraud scam.

I have sent or will send a from 1500 out for all of these scams except for the one from the Netherlands.

Because I went on vacation over the  holiday weekend, I will be processing the form 1500’s and pre-paid envelops next week.
