Drowning in Junk Mail – This Week in Junk Mail 14 pieces

All 14 pieces

I hope all of you enjoyed my 2 part Big Data extravaganza part 1, part 2. Let’s get back to the everyday nightmare of stopping junk mail. Only 14 pieces this week.

The letters I sent to the DMA are coming back:
Letters from the DMA to Carl Olson and Jerome Corsi

This one is to Carl Olson and Jerome Corsi of State Department Watch

This letter is concerning a complaint that the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has received regarding mail pieces being sent from your organization to the above-named consumer. In our ongoing effort to build trust and be responsive to the consumers of the direct marketing industry, we are forwarding this complaint to you for your response.

Ms. [name] [relationship], Jennifer Bell, has tried repeatedly to remove her elderly [relationship] name and address from your organization’s mailing lists but has not been successful in having her requests honored. Please see enclosed correspondence. Ms. Bell has asked us to contact your organization to request that you remove her [relationship] name and address from your in-house mailing. Prospect and share lists.

The Direct Marketing Association encourages all marketers to adhere to its self-regulatory Guidelines for Ethical Business Practice and its Commitment to Consumer Choice (CCC) program http://www.dmaresponsibility.org/ and Compliance Center http://thedma.org/compliance/. This includes promptly honoring individual opt-out requests, whether the individual is a customer or prospective customer. Our guidelines require that you keep a list of consumers who have asked not to hear from you and remove them from lists you mail to, share or rent.

We ask your cooperation in complying with the consumer’s request in a timely manner. We would appreciate it if you respond directly to Ms. Bell and provide us with a copy of your response.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

Sincerely,

Lisa Brown Shosteck
DMA Corporate & Social Responsibility Department

Aww Snap! Lisa Brown Shosteck just laid down a can of woop ass from the DMA. BTW Lisa keep this letter on your computer, your gonna need it a few more times. I hope Carl Olson and Jerome Corsi write to me saying they are sorry for sending me so much junk mail. But I am not holding my breath. If this works I will make a blog post about it. In this case I will give State Department Watch until Christmas week. Anything after that and I will tell Lisa on them.

Drowning in Junk Mail – This week in Junk Mail 31 pieces

All 32 pieces

I’m not gonna lie the mail can get boring. They send the same mailpiece over and over. They do that because once they find a mailpiece that brings in money they will send it out forever until it stops being effective. It is rare that junk mail has a topical, ripped-from-the-headlines subject.

Freedom Watch

This week Larry Klayman’s Freedom Watch sent a mailpiece that talks about ISIS. Of course it is trying to scare the money out of you, with the envelope screaming:

ISIS terror cells now on American soil… protect your family: open now!

Thanks Larry, I will just go crawl under my bed now.

The first choice is the 2004 classic America’s Right Turn by Richard A Viguerie and David FrankeRichard A Viguerie is the founder of the direct marketing firm American Target Advertising. This is his story of using “alternative media” to push the conservative agenda starting in the 1960’s.  When I finish, I will write a book report for it. Something I haven’t done in a few decades.

They sent all this crap. Then have the gaul to ask for $5 to cover the cost of sending the dreamcatcher, that was made in China.

Drowning in Junk Mail – 3 Civil Rights Groups

Days like today are why I write this blog. Sometimes it writes itself.

3 Civil Rights groups
I got these 3 mail pieces yesterday. They are all about the same thing: Your civil rights. But they all have very different agendas, and very different ways of presenting themselves.

Alliance Defending Freedom junk mail
Let’s start with the flashiest of the 3. Full color envelope with Obama and a “no bible” symbol and the letters “ACLU” floating around. It screams “What’s behind the UNPRECEDENTED ATTACKS on YOUR religious freedom… And what YOU can do about it!”

This is from Alliance Defending Freedom. It also came with mailing labels (I don’t like to photograph them because it will just be a blurry mess). The letter talks about how the ACLU is “undermine[ing] America’s Judeo-Christian foundation” and “The Obama Administration is building on the destructive legacy of the ACLU and taking it even further” the letter goes on like that for 4 pages.

Opt-out here.

American Civil Rights Union junk mail
Next we have a more serious envelope with a “Notice of Firearm Restriction Compliance” and some quotes from USPS postal code. This is from the American Civil Rights Union. The 8 page letter talks about gun rights, and how they are the conservative ACLU.

They want me to urgently reply to this letter by sending back a “Declaration of Freedom” that says in part: “Let it be known. That we, the free Citizens of the United States of America, will no longer tolerate the assault on our Constitutional Rights that has become a state-by-state campaign by liberal, anti-Freedom, anti-gun zealots.”

Opt-out here info@theacru.org

American Civil Liberties Union ACLU junk mail
Now we come to a simple green envelope with nothing on it (except for my scribbling). I can’t make this stuff up people, it is from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The very group demonized by the other 2 mail pieces.

The only things in the envelope is a pre-paid postage return envelope and the membership renewal notice. It’s pitch? “From urging the President and Congress to act decisively on critical civil liberties priorities, to arguing vitally important cases before the Supreme Court, to helping people protect their personal freedom in communities all across America, the ACLU’s work is more essential than ever.” That is it. One paragraph, to tell me what they do.

Opt-out here membership@aclu.org

I will try to opt-out of all them this week. I couldn’t care less about your cause. I just want the junk mail to stop.
