Drowning in Junk Mail – This Week in Junk Mail, 4 pieces

Ted Cruz junk mail

As I am writing this week’s round, up one of my junk mail boyfriends, Ted Cruz has announced that he is running for president. Fire up the printing press! They are going to start churning out junk mail to raise money for his campaign. To opt-out of junk mail from Ted Cruz call (713) 353-4330. That is only for junk mail directly from the Cruz campaign, not other groups that use Mr. Cruz to solicit donations. According to Open SecretsClub for Growth was his top donor for his senate campaign in 2012. Opt-out from Club for Growth here.

Drowning in Junk Mail – This Week in Junk Mail 10 pieces

All 10 pieces

While I was starting to write up this week’s junk mail I found out that the lady who’s mail this is, has passed away. Do not feel sad for her. She lived her life the way she wanted, to the fullest. I will process this week’s junk mail as I normally would. But next week will mark a new chapter in this blog and the way the junk mail is dealt with.

First we have a letter telling me that I have gotten her off another mailing list and the physical manifestation of why I needed to go to the lengths I did.

Freedom Watch
2 mailpieces from Freedom Watch and a letter from Larry Klayman Esq himself. It is telling me that in 60 days I will no longer get his junk mail.

Drowning in Junk Mail – This Week in Junk Mail 15 pieces

All 15 pieces

Only 15 pieces this week. This blog is stating to wind down. I don’t know what to with my time anymore. What will I do now that I don’t spend a half-hour opening, reading and sorting through 10+ pieces of junk mail everyday?

Form 1500 Step 2
The USPS sent paperwork for going to step 2 with a Prohibitory Order:

This letter is for me:

Based on the evidence you furnished us regarding a possible violation of Prohibitory Order 2080212, we have issued a Complaint (PS form 2153) against the mailer involed. A copy of the Complaint is enclosed for your records.

It has been our experiance that most mailers abide by the provisions of a Prohibitory Order issued against them under 39 USC 3008. However, in some cases, additional steps are necessary. Issuing a Complaint is the first step in the process designed to end violation of a Prohibitory Order.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

This letter is for Health Alert:

Health Alert 30 Ryan CT STE 100 Monterey CA 93940-5753

This concerns violation of Prohibitory Order number 2080212 issued against you and your agents or assigns on behalf of [name]

On 06/30/2014, you received a Prohibitory Order (see copy attached) issued under USC 3008 upon request of the above-named addressee. I have received evidence that the Prohibitory Order has been violated as follows:

A copy of the face of the mailpiece is attached.

Any response to the Complaint or petition for a hearing with respect to it must be filed with me, in writing within 15 days after receipt of this Complaint. Attached is a copy of the rules of practice for hearings on such matters. Any petition for a hearing must comply fully with §963.3(a) of these rules.

Drowning in Junk Mail – Pyramid Schemes and Chain Letters

Over the past few weeks I have been getting Pyramid schemes and chain letters. This is a disturbing trend because these mailpieces don’t come from a professional direct mail firm, but from private citizens. These victims spend their own money on envelops, photocopies and postage in hopes of getting money from other victims. USPS page on chain letters. They want you to turn over any chain letter you receive that asks for money or other items of value to your local postmaster or nearest Postal Inspector. Write on the mailing envelope of the letter or in a separate transmittal letter, “I received this in the mail and believe it may be illegal.”

Let me be clear: the only person who is making money is the one on the top of the pyramid. Everyone else is a victim.

Person who participated in a chain letter and made a grand total of $3

I wish I knew how to get her name off the suckers list. The only way to stop these scams from attacking you is to fill out a from 1500 and send them to New York. These letters are very illegal and every person who’s name is on these letters is committing a crime.

Update: One chain letter letter mentions where to buy new names Dataline 800-497-2912. They are not the scammers! When you call them to get off their mailing list, be nice to them

This one from GN-Info PO Box 520 Danville, NH 03819-0520 is the most simple of my examples, one page, very strait forward. I only have to send them $1 or 2 stamps.

The Pursuit of a Better Life program, scam

The Pursuit of a Better Life Program has a chart of how the pyramid scheme works. For this one you send $20 to 5 people.

The copy mentions Title 18, Section 1302 & 13442 of the US postal and lottery laws:

Drowning in Junk Mail – How to opt-out of Junk Mail from Specialized Fundraising

Today we are going to be dealing with the underbelly of the fundraising world. The fake charity/fake sweepstakes. This is some very nasty stuff that should be illegal. It is a charity asking for money with the veneer of a sweepstakes.

Child Protection Program charity scam

Child Protection Program scam

The first red flag is, that this “charity” has no website. It had one once according to Washington State, but it is now dead.

It is apart of Survivors and Victims Empowered. Which made the Tampa Bay Times Worst Charities list. It is run by Phil Sheldon, who is the son of the Rev. Both of these mailpieces are made by the same direct marketing firm: Specialized Fundraising. Website redirects to Info Group Media Solutions. Specialized Fundraising phone number (864) 579-7755 x111. Nextmark page for Specialized Fundraising. If that doesn’t work this is the Info Group Media Solutions contact page. I do not know if they are the same company of if they just bought the domain name.

You can look through their mailing lists here. You will find a lot of “sound a like” charities:

  • A Child Forever a program of Kids Wish Network
  • American Foundation for Disabled Children
  • Care for Our Wounded Soldiers a program of National Caregiving Foundation
  • Combating Children’s Cancer Foundatoin, a mailing program of Israel Children’s Cancer Foundatoin

  • Sweepstakes Contributors To Alzheimer’s Research (National Alzheimer’s Council)
  • Sweepstakes Donors To A Diabetes Cause (Defeat Diabetes)

US scams
10 US based scams. Almost everyone is going down this week.

  • American Sweepstakes Publishers PO Box 12954 Kansas City, KS 66112-2954 it is on it’s last legs. I sent a  form 1500 for them a few weeks ago.
  • L.D.R. PO Box 190 Old Westbury, NY 15568 is playing games with me. I have already sent out a form 1500 on the outside return address under a different name: L.D.R. PO Box 422 Old Bethpage, NY 11804. It’s OK guys I will keep sending them in until you stop.
  • The Douglass Report 189 N. Charles St. Baltimore MD 21201. Rational Wiki page.
  • Scoopified P.O. Box 277; Bellingham, WA 98227.  It is written by the mysterious Diane Morgan.

2 with the same PO Box
Dr. David William’s Alternatives, PO Box 95 Old Shoals rd Arden, NC 28704. He is a chiropractor who is into peddling various pills to older people. Here is nice write-up by a doctor about a patient binging in one of his magazines. I put in a request to stop the mail through Catalog Choice months ago and it didn’t, so a form 1500 it is.

3 with the same PO Box
Dr. Frank Shallenberger’s Real Cures, Advanced Bionutritionals, and Dr. Nan Kathryn Fuchs’s Women’s Health Letter have the same PO Box. PO Box 8051 Norcross, GA 30091-851. Again I put in a request to stop the mail through Catalog Choice months ago and it didn’t work. Because they all use the same address, I only have to send in 1 form 1500. Thanks guys 🙂

Pocket calendar and a dollar
This week I made a dollar and a pocket calendar.

Marked calandar
Luckily it is a 15 month calendar. I have already put it to good use. I estimate that the junk mail from Response Unlimited should stop the first week of August.
