Drowning in Junk Mail – This week in Junk Mail, 7 pieces

All 7 pieces

Welcome to February! I’m all booked up for the month.

Junk mail calendar

This is how I have been keeping track of when I should stop seeing junk mail from every group. When I get a response from someone I count out the weeks on the calendar to when it should stop. Most of the time I count out 8 weeks, unless they tell me different. If I am still getting mail after the cut off date I contact them again or if they give me a hard time I send in a DMA complaint. BTW this little pocket calendar was free from Humane Society. This is just one of the ways I am using the freebies that came with the junk mail to help me stop it.

It is time to check everyone’s ID, because the 2 in 1 day club is open!

Citizen Guardian
It has been a while since I have gotten 2 mailpices from 1 group in one day. This week it was Citizen Guardian, Inc. GuideStar page, Opt-out info@CitizenGuardian.org and call (202) 469-3433. They use Engage Direct Mail and InfoCision for fundraising.

I got a very special invite from The Claremont Institute (Wiki page, Charity Navigator page) to see Pat Sajak MC a dinner and talk with Dr. Charles Krauthammer at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Sadly my mink is at the furrier for repairs, so I will be unable to attend. Opt-out here info@claremont.org and call (909) 981-2200.

Special Operations for America

Gary L. Stubblefield Special Operations for America, Open Secrets page,  Opt-out here contact@soforamerica.org They use Base Connect as their fundraiser.

Rand Paul and National Right to Work Committee. Wiki page, Source Watch page. Opt-out here and call (800) 325-7892. They are apart of the Koch brother’s web of political influence. Junk mail from them should stop in mid-March

ALS Association

ALS Association (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) Wiki page, Charity Navigator page. Their fundraiser is Strategic Fundraising. Opt-out here: The national email address alsinfo@alsa-national.org, the donation email address donations@alsa-national.org. I got no response so I called the donation hot line (888) 949-2577. This should be the last mailpiece from them.

No scams and no prepaid envelopes to send out.

Drowning in Junk Mail – This Week in Junk Mail 14 pieces

All 14 pieces

I hope all of you enjoyed my 2 part Big Data extravaganza part 1, part 2. Let’s get back to the everyday nightmare of stopping junk mail. Only 14 pieces this week.

The letters I sent to the DMA are coming back:
Letters from the DMA to Carl Olson and Jerome Corsi

This one is to Carl Olson and Jerome Corsi of State Department Watch

This letter is concerning a complaint that the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has received regarding mail pieces being sent from your organization to the above-named consumer. In our ongoing effort to build trust and be responsive to the consumers of the direct marketing industry, we are forwarding this complaint to you for your response.

Ms. [name] [relationship], Jennifer Bell, has tried repeatedly to remove her elderly [relationship] name and address from your organization’s mailing lists but has not been successful in having her requests honored. Please see enclosed correspondence. Ms. Bell has asked us to contact your organization to request that you remove her [relationship] name and address from your in-house mailing. Prospect and share lists.

The Direct Marketing Association encourages all marketers to adhere to its self-regulatory Guidelines for Ethical Business Practice and its Commitment to Consumer Choice (CCC) program http://www.dmaresponsibility.org/ and Compliance Center http://thedma.org/compliance/. This includes promptly honoring individual opt-out requests, whether the individual is a customer or prospective customer. Our guidelines require that you keep a list of consumers who have asked not to hear from you and remove them from lists you mail to, share or rent.

We ask your cooperation in complying with the consumer’s request in a timely manner. We would appreciate it if you respond directly to Ms. Bell and provide us with a copy of your response.

Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

Sincerely,

Lisa Brown Shosteck
DMA Corporate & Social Responsibility Department

Aww Snap! Lisa Brown Shosteck just laid down a can of woop ass from the DMA. BTW Lisa keep this letter on your computer, your gonna need it a few more times. I hope Carl Olson and Jerome Corsi write to me saying they are sorry for sending me so much junk mail. But I am not holding my breath. If this works I will make a blog post about it. In this case I will give State Department Watch until Christmas week. Anything after that and I will tell Lisa on them.

Drowning in Junk Mail – This Week in Junk Mail 48 pieces

All 45 pieces

I have stalled. I am stuck at 40-50 pieces a week. I don’t expect to drop again until the end of the month when the junk mail from Base Connect stops. I am taking a photo of every mailpiece in PaperKarma. I have entered over 140 different companies since I stated using PaperKarma in late July. A human from the DMA got back to me. They want people to mail in a formal complaint. I am going to try and get an e-mail address out of them.

Drowning in Junk Mail – This Week in Junk Mail 30 Pieces

I didn’t think that I was going to write an entry this week. I had no junk mail from May 9th to May 17th. It was the 8 best days I have had in 2 months. No giant stacks of mail in my arms, as I trugged back to the house from the mail box. No paper cuts, or getting stabbed by my letter opener. It was wonderful.

30 pieces of junk mail
Then on Saturday the mail man dropped 30 pieces of mail on me. I consider this a victory. I was expecting the mail to get better the week of May 19th. The fact that it got better a week early is great.

The best pairing of the week was definitely Rand Paul and Al Franken.
Rand Paul and Al Franken
As if you needed more prof that this lady’s mail is very messed up. No one should be getting mail from both these people at the same time. And yet here we are.

As for the rest of the political junk mail, take a look:
