I am back from my trip to the desert. While I was out I got a great comment from Lorraine part of it read: “I wrote a letter directly to the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre and was told when I called 10 days later that she was off the list.” Good for you Lorraine.

While I was out only 7 pieces of mail showed up.  This month is the end for a whole bunch of groups.

America Grant Network PO Box 3211 New York NY 10008. Run by Robert Newhart. Just send in $34.95 and he will tell you how to get free money from the government. This is one of the great canards of scam junk mail. They have an F from the BBB. Multiple Rip-off Reports. If you really need financial help from the government go to USA.gov and they can point you in the right direction. Or go to Unclaimed.org to find unclaimed money in closed bank accounts. Do not try to cash the check in the mailpiece. More than likely it won’t work, but in case it does, it will give Robert Newhart access to your bank account. If you want to stop this type of junk mail fill out a form 1500.

I feel silly blogging about 6 pieces of junk mail. But the dramatic tension is growing. Can I make the junk mail stop for a month? I am on the edge of my mailbox with anticipation.

The good thing about only 6 pieces, is that I have more time to really talk about these last few junk mailers. This week doesn’t disappoint.

All of these groups are controled by one family: the Sheldons. The dad Rev. Louis P. • Ran 16 million online video ads. That were blocked by Ad Blocker.
• Deployed hundreds of volunteers who visited 500,00 homes, and had the door slammed in their faces.

I hope your Thanksgiving was good and that your parents and grandparents junk mail woes are under control. My plans fell through. I made the best of it by emailing a bunch of junk mailers and their direct mail fundraising companies. So when they rolled into work on Monday they found my “Remove from mailing list” email.

Since I am down to a reasonable amount of junk mail here is how the month of December is going to go:

1. Scan into PaperKarma
2. Email, and if it is email number 2: a phone call.
3. Email to direct marketing firm, if I can find it
4. If no response by the end of the week, fill out a complaint to the DMA
5. If scam send in a form 1500

My experiment with PaperKarma is over. It was able to stop about half of the mail I scanned in. I will be doing a review of Catalog Choice vs. PaperKarma soon.

Next week I should be dropped from InfoCision, and American Target Advertising.

Drowning in Junk Mail – How to Opt-out of Junk Mail from American Target Advertising

Today’s direct marketing firm is American Target Advertising, they also have the website Non-Profit Prosperity.com.

The company was founded in 1965 by Richard Viguerie using a mailing list made up of 12,500 of Barry Goldwater`s $50-plus donors. He went down to the clerk of the House of Representatives with a gaggle of secretaries to write down Barry Goldwater’s donors who gave $50 or more. Out of 15,000 names they only got 12,500, before someone kicked them out. That list of names became the backbone of his direct mail firm, The Viguerie Company that became American Target Advertising. Mr. Viguerie has spun off his marketing techniques in to a class, so you can do them yourself Viguerie Marketing Institute. He has also written a book about direct mail marketing America’s Right Turn.

Direct marketing firms all share/sell their mailing lists with each other. Groups who I opted-out of months ago started popping up again. That tells me she was being sold back on to the list. Or I was getting 2 of the same mailpiece in the same week and got it down to one. There was a list above what I had gotten her off of. That lead me to the history of direct mail and Mr. Viguerie. I am sure my gal has been on this guy’s list since the 1970’s.

Like Mr. Viguerie I am using the Federal Election Commission  and the IRS as a tool. Only this time it is to find out who his clients are so I can make mail from American Target Advertising stop. Between Charity Navigator and Open Secrets I have taught myself how to dig into the boat loads of paper that charities and PACs have to file. American Target Advertising is a classy firm that doesn’t blab about their clients on their website. I had to dive into documents that can be hundreds of pages long, to pull out who does the fundraising for each one.

I hate slipping back like this, but the amount of mail that rolls in can have wild fluctuations in either direction week to week. PaperKarma has been having problems ever since the update to iOS8. I hope that they work everything out soon. I have a huge backlog of requests right now. And I have ratcheted up the revenge meter. I have sent out my first DMA Ethics Case Complaint form. It is for State Department Watch. I have emailed State Department Watch, I got no response. When I called them no one picked up the phone. Oh, now it is on State Department Watch. Look for that at the bottom with the pre-paid envelopes and the form 1500’s.

This is a momentous week. I have dropped 100 pieces of junk mail per week, from when I started. I can see the light at the end of the junk mail tunnel. I am in a holding pattern until mid-October when I will be dropped from HSP Direct and Nova List. So, no emails to anyone new until then. Including one of the most long winded pyramid schemes I have seen. 6 pages double sided. All trying to convince me to send $97 to one person and $100 to another. If you can’t tell me your pitch in 1 page you are a terrible sales person.

I won’t be sending out any form 1500’s this week. None of them qualify. I have either already sent them out, or It is the first time I have gotten them. I hope the guys in the New York office don’t miss me.

You should recognize this little scam from PO BOX 17 Varsity Lakes QLD 4227 Australia. I get it almost every week. Now with both her new and old address. As I am writing this, the mail for next week has already come, and I just got 3 more. Because it is international, I can’t use a from 1500 to make it stop. Or I would have stopped them months ago. I have sent every one back stuffed, not stuffed, nasty notes, crazy notes, and they still come. So this time I am trying something new. Instead of just “Take me off your mailing list” I have put “Deceased, She is dead” next to her address. I have not done this before because, she is in fact not dead. I also don’t want to mess up her Social Security and Medicare. But this one is international and they just can’t take a hint.
